Hydrotherapy uses the properties of warm water to provide a safe environment for dogs

Hydrotherapy at RISE

Hydrotherapy uses the properties of warm water to provide a safe, effective, and low-impact environment for dogs undergoing rehabilitation from acute injuries, managing chronic conditions, or building strength and mobility. At RISE, our hydrotherapy services include both a state of the art underwater treadmill and a custom designed hydrotherapy pool, allowing us to tailor each session to your dog’s specific clinical needs or lifestyle goals.

In addition to rehabilitation, we also offer fun and fitness swims, water confidence sessions for puppies or nervous dogs, and general wellbeing programmes to help keep your dog active, happy, and healthy.

We offer two specialist hydrotherapy setups:

Our  Facilities

At RISE Tarleton, our hydrotherapy suite features a temperature-controlled (28–30 °C) bespoke pool with a graduated entry ramp, plus a state of the art underwater treadmill with side-view windows for precise gait assessment and incline feature. At our Southport site, we offer the same state-of-the-art underwater treadmill. Both clinics are staffed by RVNs and veterinary physiotherapists, and offer owner-viewing areas to ensure every dog enjoys a safe, comfortable and effective rehabilitation experience.

Why Hydrotherapy Works

The buoyancy, resistance, and warmth of the water make hydrotherapy a powerful tool to:

  • Improve joint mobility and flexibility

  • Build and maintain muscle tone

  • Aid pain relief and reduce inflammation

  • Encourage weight-bearing safely

  • Enhance cardiovascular health

  • Support mental wellbeing

Every session is individually planned, ensuring a safe, progressive, and effective therapy programme tailored to your dog’s condition and ability.

Our Expertise & Accreditation

All hydrotherapy sessions are delivered by qualified professionals, including Registered Veterinary Nurses and certified physiotherapists. Our founder, Amy, is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with advanced qualifications in hydrotherapy and emergency and critical care care.

Referral Required

  1. As a veterinary-led clinical service, all dogs must have a signed referral or consent form from their veterinary surgeon before starting hydrotherapy or physiotherapy.

  2. This is a legal and professional requirement to ensure that hydrotherapy is safe and appropriate for your dog. It allows our team to work in partnership with your vet, understand your pet’s medical history, and tailor a rehabilitation plan that aligns with their clinical condition. It also ensures that we are aware of any contraindications or precautions that need to be considered before therapy begins.

To Get Started:

  1. Complete our booking form online or collect a paper copy from the clinic.

  2. We will liaise with your vet and confirm once your dog is approved to begin treatment.

  3. Please do not book an initial appointment until referral confirmation is received. Arriving without a completed referral will result in the full fee being charged and the session unable to proceed.

Important Information Before Booking

All pets must have a signed veterinary referral before starting hydrotherapy or physiotherapy.

This is a legal requirement to ensure safe, appropriate treatment.

To get started, please complete the referral request form at the top of this page. We’ll forward it to your vet for signing if needed. Paper forms are also available at the clinic.

If you arrive without a completed referral, the session can’t go ahead and the full fee will still apply.

Hydrotherapy Pool (Tarleton Only):
Spacious, calm, ideal for free swimming, confidence building, and improving stamina – great for nervous dogs, puppies, or post-rehab fitness.

Both systems use heated, sanitised water with quick-fill and drain times, ensuring comfort, hygiene, and top-tier care.
